Illinois Expands PFAS Prohibition to Consumer Products

On August 6, 2021, Illinois enacted the PFAS Reduction Act (SB 2516), which initially targeted firefighting foams. The Act prohibited the use of class B firefighting foam with intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) for training or testing beginning January 1, 2022, and further banned its manufacture, sale, and distribution beginning January 1, 2025.
