U.S. FDA Declares 35 PFAS Food Contact Notifications Ineffective
On January 3, 2025, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a notice regarding Food Contact Notifications That Are No Longer Effective. In this notice, the FDA determined that 35 food contact notifications (FCNs) related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are no longer effective, following notifications from manufacturers that they have ceased the production, supply, or use of the listed Food contact substances (FCSs) in the United States.

On January 6, 2025, India's Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) released the Environment Protection (End-of-Life Vehicles) Rules, 2025, which introduced the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for end-of-life (EoL) vehicles. The new rule shall come into force from April 1, 2025.

Japan Revises Food Recycling Law: Key Updates for Food Manufacturers
On December 27, 2024, Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) released a draft amendment to the Ordinance Defining the Criteria for Food-related Businesses to Make Decisions Regarding the Promotion of Recycling and Utilization of Food Resources. These changes introduce new requirements specifically targeting food manufacturers and retailers, aiming to minimize food waste and optimize resource use. The revised provisions will take effect after the official announcement.
