On October 30, 2023, India's Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) released the Plastic Waste Management (Second Amendment) Rules, 2023 on the Gazette of India. The amendment shall apply on the date of publication in the Gazette.
The amendment provides companies with the option to acquire EPR certificates if they are unable to meet the EPR targets for plastic packaging in a specific category but have a surplus in another category.
