The European Union’s revised Waste Framework Directive officially came into force on October 16, 2025, introducing significant measures to enhance sustainability in the textile sector and reduce food waste across Member States. The updated directive mandates extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes for textiles and footwear and sets binding food waste reduction targets, marking a critical step in the EU’s circular economy and environmental goals. Member States will have 20 months to transpose the revised Directive into national laws.
