The Executive Director of the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) has initiated an evaluation - EVA00204 on the introduction (import/manufacture) and use of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). EVA00204 targets 522 PFAS chemicals listed in the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC). On October 14, 2025, the AICIS issued a notice to require stakeholders to provide information on these PFAS chemicals, thereby considering which chemicals should be the subject of further evaluation.
Who shall provide PFAS information?
All introducers registered with the AICIS Business Services Portal between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2025 (inclusive) will receive a written notice from the Executive Director via email by next week. They shall review the list of 522 PFAS chemicals to check whether they have or have not introduced any of the listed PFAS chemicals and inform AICIS of this issue. Registrants who have introduced any of the listed PFAS must provide the required information in respect of each chemical they have introduced.
What PFAS information is required?
Each registrant shall provide the following information:
Whether the registrant has introduced (imported/manufactured) into Australia any of the 522 listed PFAS chemicals
The CAS number and name of the chemical, the mode of introduction (i.e., import and/or manufacture), the total volume introduced, and the end use (in respect of any listed PFAS chemicals the registrant has introduced).
The reason(s) why they are not able to provide that information (in respect of any information that the registrant is not able to provide).
When is the submission deadline?
The registrants shall submit the required information within 40 working days of the date of the notice.
Target PFAS chemicals
Details about the 522 PFAS chemicals are now recorded on AICIS’s Rolling Action Plan for evaluation (Evaluation ID: EVA00204), including CAS No., chemical name, subject of evaluation, etc., can be accessed here.
